EssilorLuxottica has forked out $8 Billion in cash to buy Dutch Retail Chain, GrandeVision, which includes brands such as Vision Express in Britain and For Eyes in the United States and Brilleland in Europe. GrandVision sells prescription glasses, contact lenses and other eyecare products. According to the website they have forty-three different retail brands scattered across Europe and elsewhere.
This will bring Retail Outlets controlled by EssilorLuxottica across the world to over 7000 in more than 40 countries. EssilorLuxottica already own chains like LensCrafters and Pearle Vision. The question remains whether the deal will pass the scrutiny of competition regulators.
