Over the past year, Spectramed Medical Scheme (Spectramed) and Resolution Health Medical Scheme (Resolution Health) have been in discussion regarding a possible merger into a new, combined and much larger Amalgamated Scheme. The Council for Medical Schemes (CMS) has been kept closely informed throughout the process, mainly to ensure that the merger will be to the ultimate benefit of both schemes’ members.
We have recently proceeded to the member voting stage where Spectramed and Resolution Health member now have the opportunity to vot for, or against the merger. If approved by members, as well as the appropriate authorities, the Amalgamated Scheme will come into effect on 01 January 2019 and will have a new name, as well as exciting new options for member to choose from. With a combined membership of approximately 25 000 principal members, the new scheme will be one of the largest and strongest industry players.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME AS A PROVIDER?
Agility Health will remain the new scheme’s administrator and managed care provider. This means that all processes, contact details and known people that you have dealt with will predominantly remain the same. While further communication regarding claims processes will be provided over the next few weeks, it’s business as usual with all your processes, aspects and dealings with the Schemes continuing as per normal.
WHY SHOULD I BE EXCITED ABOUT THIS DEVELOPMENT?
As a much larger and stronger industry player, the new scheme will offer you:
Please note:
- Communication regarding all increases will be communicated in due course
- All claims switching companies will be informed of the new scheme code for claiming purposes
- All Agility Health contracts will now be applicable for the amalgamated scheme
WHEN WILL THE AMALGAMATION HAPPEN?
Resolution Health and Spectramed members will now have the opportunity to vote for the merger. The process will be managed by independent auditors, Grant Thornton Inc. who will ensure that it is done in a transparent and objective manner.
If the merger is approved by our members, the Council for Medical Schemes and the Competition Commission, the new scheme will come into effect on 01 January 2019.
Resolution Health and Spectramed wish to assure all providers of their ongoing commitment and that the best interests of their members, and your patients, remain at the very heart of everything we do. The schemes are extremely excited about this development and the many benefits it will bring to members and look forward to a positive voting outcome that will see the launch of the new scheme on 01 January 2019. Members and providers will receive regular communications throughout the amalgamation process and we look froward to your continued support as we progress on this exciting new journey.
Yours Sincerely,
Patrick Masobe
