Clive studied optometry at Wits Tech and qualified in 1979. He then practiced in Pretoria and Springs for 3 years until he decided to study medicine which he began at Wits in 1983. To pay his way through medical school he continued doing optometry locums every Saturday morning and varsity holidays. Clive worked in over 20 optometry practices for the next 12 years finally doing his last locum at Clyde Alexander’s practice on the same day that he qualified as an ophthalmologist! Clive graduated as a medical doctor (MBBCh) in 1988, receiving his masters (MMed) in 1993 and qualified as an ophthalmologist (FCS) in 1994. In 1995, Clive started private practice in Springs and Benoni where he practices mainly as a cataract and refractive surgeon. His main field of interest is the optics of intra-ocular lenses.
